The drawing can never be complete because each square contains smaller squares decreasing (probably) to infinity. The chequerboard is parallel to the ecliptic. It is not too difficult to pick out the Templar crosses.

It is the ELOHIM or (by simply rearranging the letters) the MICHEL pattern. Each letter of the word is written on top of each other and turned 12 times at 30°.
